Sweet Kitsch Finds!!

 I received some adorable finds the last few weeks... So here's what came in!

I found this adorable furry ceramic pup in the wider version I was told and she is in lovely condition for her age. I have already listed her in my shop! I generally find the skinnier neck version, so to find this one was a joy! I also won this lovely vintage 1972 Rushton Toy Catalog. Some great colored pages inside too! I am deciding if I want to sell scans of it or not... Hmmmm!

I also adopted this adorable Japan Bisque doll jointed. The original owner, added a wig in blonde with curls and the dress and bows. I couldn't resist. She is just too cute and miniature!! Next, this lovely bright pink Columbia Toys plush poodle! She's huge! But so light. The seller even drew me a little note, how sweet of him!! I am deciding if I will sell her or not... Haha!

This adorable Ideal side laying bunny had a plastic film on her face and I removed it, now she is ready to be loved. I already have her listed in my shop! She is lovely and minty too! Even these sweet bunny tin tea tray and plates were added to my shop! Just so many cute goodies to choose from!!

A dear friend of mine, Savannah sent me a cutie I adopted from her along with several adorable vintage hankies, most I have listed already in my shop! Just look at these lovely hankies. My fave are the blue and pastel pinks! The cutie I got from her! Love this precious vinyl oil cloth bear doll. She is just the sweetest! Thank you Savannah!

Next, I happened upon this yearbook or catalog while searching up Rushton ads and this is basically the next best thing! It's a catalog of toys chosen by the Guidance Council of the USA. Inside, filled with toys, dolls, etc. that were in competition. Rushton's are featured inside as well! Just love the colored pages. Especially to see the Rushton's available prior to the ones we know!

Last, is this adorable Japan made Bunka Doll sign. I bought from an online shop in Thailand. Of course I fell in love with the adorable dolly sign and it used to say, "Sweet Country". See 2nd photo below. But I took my business card and now it says my shop name!! Haha!

Well, April is on its way out! My how time flies! I also had my annual mammogram and the results came in this past Monday. I'm Cancer Free!! Yippee!! Please be sure to get your annual mammogram done. It saves lives, and it saved mine!! Early detection saved me!!

Creating Cute Kitsch!!

 This past week, I've been on a roll with up cycling a few goodies, that have come into my possession... So yeah it has been a busy week! LOL I began with these vintage Meyercord decals and put them on some vintage Hazel Atlas milk glass jars. It was fun to do and I really am happy with the outcome. I have a few listed in my Etsy shop for sale!!

 Next, I worked on this adorable vintage Krueger Kitty night light/lamp. She was in need of just a bit of touching up. Her paws were faded and worn, and her flower was so dull and drab. I replaced both with some vintage pompoms and a hot pink center daisy and TADA! She was looking fab! But, I felt like she needed a bit more oomph! Sooo, I added some vintage cream lace, blue and pink satin ribbons, and a chenille tail along with a large satin blue bow. Now, she's ready to be center of attention!!

I enjoy finding other things I could up cycle and make more cute! Majority of the time I do them to sell and add to my shop, but I found that I end up falling in love with what I've created and end up not wanting to sell them at all. LOL! Oh my goodness, not a good thing for my pocket and the limited space I have! Haha! Off to convince myself I really don't need to keep them!!

Interview with The Vintage Unicorn!!

 

 Interview with a Collector - ggsdolls blog Series 

      I decided to start something new on my blog and share some of the most amazing collectors, sellers, and creatives, that have become friends of mine on my blog and share with you what they collect and why?

    For the month of May, this blog interview is with the gorgeous, the_vintage_unicorn on Instagram or commonly known as Jess.

     Jess and her favorite fake Rushton Bunny.

     Jess is from the Midwest area of the United States. She used to be a sales 

associate at a  department store before she became a stay at home mom. How 

long have you been selling vintage?  Jess ~ "I have been selling online since 

2001." Jess started her vintage Instagram account back in 2014. This is where  

she sells, and shares her vintage collection. Jess, first encountered a rubber 

face bear in 2015 while antiquing in Oklahoma. "He was huge! I bought him  

for seventeen dollars, and I still have him in my collection. The following year I 

came across two bunnies. One was a Rushton bunny that I purchased 

at an estate sale for one hundred dollars." ~ Jess

    Jess, "I made this custom for myself using a rubber face that was sold for crafting and painted 

the face.  The expressions on their face is what I love about them. They are so sweet and adorable. 

Even thought they are a bit creepy, I still love them."

This bunny above is one of Jess' favorites.    

     Jess ~ "I was skeptical to purchase at first as I thought it was expensive at the time. 

 But this bunny was in pristine condition. I fell in love with her adorable face & honestly 

I rarely saw them for sale.  So I purchased her. I thought about selling them at one point,  

but then I thought if I let them go I probably won't come across more. So in my collection 

they stayed."  

 Her biggest Rushton Bear.

      "I have always collected vintage toys & plushes. Mostly from the 80s and early 90s. 

I felt collecting rubber faces would fit in with my aesthetic. Bunnies, kitties and bears are 

my favorites. It's hard to pick only one because I love them all just as much!" ~ Jess

   She found these two in amazing condition just before the craze.

     Jess ~ "The expression on their face is what draws my attention. They are all so 

sweet, unique and beautifully painted. I didn't know much about them until I met friends 

on Instagram who also collect them. I am thankful for them sharing their knowledge & 

their collection. Now I'm always searching for more rubber faces mostly at estate sales 

& antique stores." 

 She thinks this is one of her most unique rubber face plush.

     

     "I will sometimes sell them but usually end up keeping them. They are truly difficult to 

let go and there are so many different ones. I always get asked, 'If I would sell?' But, as 

their popularity has grown so much these last couple of years. I think it's nice to see that 

they are loved again by many more." ~ Jess

    Jess ~ "I even love the 'fakie' handmade rubber faces. I find them so unique and just 

as adorable. I'm not sure how many I have but I am happy to say my collection continues 

to grow." I truly enjoyed interviewing Jess, and learning more about her collection and

Adorable Finds!

Here's what came in... I was able to snag this lovely Jennyeveryday yellow bunny wall plaque! Just too cute and will go with my blue one I already have. Next, I won this lovely Toei Animation Little Mermaid book! I have been wanting the book for some time now. I was very surprised that I even won!! Usually I'm outbidded. Now, I have the art print photos and this book in my collection. Yay!

This lovely vintage set of unopened and mint beaded wallets are already listed in my shop! Just too cute and did I say mint!! Yup, mint! I had a few commissions the past few days and worked on each of them. The vtg Gund Thumper red bunny plush, had disintegrated foam stuffing inside. It was like sand as I removed it. Luckily, I had a lot of stuffing in my arsenal to replace it with. He just needed a touch up on his facepaint and some simple fixes on his collar and he was done. This version is one of my favorites of the Thumper series of plush characters.

 

Then, I found this lovely vtg My Toy kitty from a vtg shop and was able to adopt her. She just needed some minor fixes, touch up of face paint and a good wash and she is now adorable again! I love these sad faces too much! LOL Adorable coloring too! Below, a fellow collector's plush Rushton Panda. James of seafoodpasta on IG was at a loss, because this cutie needed fur fixing. He had patches of fur missing. Poor baby! His issues kicked my butt too! I had to fix his felt paws and feet, which were quite easy to do. But, it was the missing fur... I had to find some. Luckily, I was able to get some from a source via California. As soon as it arrived, I was able to begin the tedious job of figuring out how to do this... In the end, I was able too. Whew! I spent at least 4 to 5 hours on his fur alone.

And I think he turned out nicely. Whew! Just touched up his rosey cheeks and he is now on his way back home to James! It was definitely a challenge and I am in no way always an expert at this whole restoration thang, but it is definitely bitter sweet when it does work out in the end.
