Wonder Foam Paper Doll!!

While browsing my usual sites, I came across, this lovely vintage paper doll, that caught my eye!! I bought it and it arrived to me safe n sound, and I just have to share about it!!
1950 Vintage Dejournette Paper doll dubbed, "Jill Wonder Foam" Dimensional stand up doll. I believe she is from the 50s, and based on her fashions, they are of 50's styling too. This paper doll is huge!! About 17 inches of hugeness! Lovely face, the paper doll does have some creases, as previous owner bent her. But, she is still in lovely condition for her age. Her fashions are still in tack and uncut. Amazing! Sadly, she is missing the insert for her to stand upright. I will have to find or make a replacement.

On her packaging it says, teen fashion doll. But from what she wears, most of her fashions remind me of young woman's style instead. Lovely evening dresses, to a night on the town, and casual wear too! I won't be cutting out her fashions and leave them mint. But, I will try to find other styles I want her dressed in, that I can easily print out or scan them to print...

She will be great in a large photo frame as decor or display, along with her fashions. Made in Canada, for a company DeJournette MFG. Co. in Alanta, GA by The Copp Clark Publishing Co. I tried to see if there other girls, or maybe even other years, like 60s or 70s. Sadly, nothing...Darn.

Definitely keeping for now. I know someone on Ebay is selling printed copies of this same paper doll, and in different sizes too! Nice. But, I prefer the original in all her large foamy glory!! Haha!
Last, I also picked up a brown pair of Bemybabycherry heels. Can't wait to use them on my gal!!
Have a great weekend!! And stay safe!

Handmade Roly Poly Dolls!!

I recently had so many collectors ask about the Roly Poly, I listed in my shop. I hope to bring two more in next week to have available soon! So stay tuned!!

Last year, I bought a pattern via Etsy on how to make "Roly Poly" dolls. Mostly because I wanted the pattern for a bonnet to make for my Rushton Duck, at the time. I revisited the pattern and had a bunch of really cute small dolly heads that I decided to use... I didn't take any 'Before' or "Work In Progress" shots, so I'll just share them...
Using felt, pompom, Daiso ruffles, vintage miniature buttons, and sheer ribbon. I created this cute sleeping roly poly bear. He even dings. The pattern gave directions on how to add a bell, so you can hear him ding. He turned out adorable. I will try to make more and add them to my Etsy shop soon. I reduced the pattern slightly to match the size of the doll head. Still a bit large. I painted his eyes closed to make him a sleepy bear. His original eyes were kind of cross-eyed! LOL

Then, I even made a Pippi Longstocking Roly Poly doll!! I took these cute red headed doll heads and was trying to figure out what character to create? Pippi was one! She turned out just as cute too! She also dings!!

Then, I received a few items earlier this week. Some vintage mod daisy hair ties, and a bunch of chenille baby chicks! I also bought two cute Critter Spool dollies from enamo_amie on instagram. A deer and cat! Just too cute! Love them, Thanks Amie!!

Next, I found more vintage Hawaiian dolls. I'm not sure if they were made in Japan or not. But they both have the same or similar face paint. And its really nice to see a male version of these dolls. I mostly find the girls. This handsome Fire Eater is missing one of his torches, sadly. I know I could make a replacement, I just need the matching fur. The makers did a great job of sculpting his body too. Also, his partner, similar to my other Hawaiian Hula dancer, but she has a rafia grass skirt instead of the fur. Even their skin tone are more red, as compared to the other I have.

Here they are side by side. I think my fur skirted gal, is a bit more large, but from the angle that I took the photo, you couldn't tell she was. LOL   I hope to fix the Fire Eater's other torch, and maybe add Ku Kui beads and head dress to him, and a Lei for her. Then, they will be listed in my shop soon!!

VTG Hawaiian Dolls, Etc

I don't often collect Hawaiian dolls, but from afar, I fell in love with some that I've seen mostly in the Japan secondary markets. These Hawaiian dolls, were advertised with the words, "Aloha", or "Hawaii" on the base, and were produced from around the 1960s and 1970s. But they were made in Japan. The earlier versions had synthetic fur as skirts, I believe, instead of rafia or plastic fibers. The dolls I've seen in Japan have a lovely face with dark skin tone, black hair and generally in a dancing stance. While the cheaper versions made elsewhere. Most having somewhat generic face and odd look in their eyes. You see, the Japan versions are similar to the sweet sexy dolls you find in negligees, sold as cake toppers or gag gifts. The Hawaiian dolls in fur skirts are more sought after. Notice, the fur is similar to the fur used on Kitsch ceramic cats and puppy coin banks! In Japan, these dolls can cost upwards, in the 3-digits!

I recently, bought and won this lovely fur skirt version on Ebay. She has her original flower hair pin, and lei. But, when I received her, she had green clay on her base, which was messy and sticky to the touch. I removed her lei and hair pin, so that I could remove the green clay and wash and shampoo her. Her fur was in need of a good brushing. I reglued her to her base and shampooed her hair. I replaced her flower and pin for now. I just need to find her a new old lei. Sadly, I see why the previous owner used clay. Her base is not stable, and because the doll leans too much in the forward motion, she can easily tip. I will have to figure out what I can do to remedy this...

Look at her beautiful island girl face!! Even the motion of her hands tell a story... Perhaps she is dancing to an old Hawaiian legend of two lovers in the night... Well, if you find yourself locating any of these Hawaiian dolls, you might want to take a second look and keep them. In Japan, they are worth a lot more!
She's a keeper for sure! Below, I also found from ebay, this lovely vintage ceramic Chipmunk planter. Similar to my Lamb planter, this one has two chipmunks with one inside the tree. Also has the rabbit fur surrounding its neck, and a tag that says, "Press my head I talk!" I know what you are thinking, does it actually talk? No, I don't think they had the mechanisms back then, but perhaps a squeaker was inside it? The spring that holds the ceramic head, must have had a squeak mechanism, when you pressed its head. That is my guess. The Lamb version I have, is stationary and doesn't have the spring. This chipmunk planter does have its original Reuben's sticker underneath.

I added a blue satin bow, now he's just as adorable as my lamb planter. I may decide to list the Chipmunk planter in my shop... So stay tuned!
