1974 Eegee Handee Poppet Dolls

    In March of 2021, I discovered my first Eegee Handee Poppet doll, Alice! I have since custom made three Alice's into Hybrid dolls and restored two puppets. Recently I won an auction for another Alice! So, I need to shared a bit more about these lovely vintage puppet dolls. The word "Poppet" in the title is not a typo and the word means, "An affectionate term of endearment for a child or sweet person" according to Google.

Here is an Alice photo from a reference book, with her original box. In 1974, Eegee Doll Company/Goldberger Doll Manufacturing Company released a puppet doll named, Handee Poppet. There were five styles available. Gypsy the fortune teller, Alice, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Bozo the Clown. Handee Poppets were about 24" tall, with rooted hair in different colors. They had painted eyes with large lashes, and an open-closed mouth. The vinyl head was mounted on a turning post. A child's hand holds the post and other hand becomes the doll's hand. How ingenious!!

I have only seen, Gypsy, Little Red, Cinderella, and Alice. I have not found a Bozo Handee. These puppets are lovely and I still own my first Alice as a hybrid. Below, is the latest Alice I found. She will be available in my shop soon. I won't make her into a hybrid doll, unless the buyer wants to commission me to do so. So check my shop soon! Update, she sold fast on the bay!  There is a Gypsy doll NRFB listed on ebay, but at a very high price. Still lovely to see an original box! Lovely graphics on the box and even other photos of the other dolls on the bottom! There's even an Alice with black hair!?!!!

Recently, someone listed another Gypsy and Cinderella doll!! Look at Cinderella below. Love her dress and her hair is definitely wavy! Sadly, the dolls hair can be very tangled and brittle. So you have to be very careful when washing or handling it when you brush. I recommend conditioner or Downy fabric softener.

My Doll on The Museum at FIT!!

     There was a call for all doll collectors if interested in contributing photos of the dolls they have in their collection. This was by The Museum at FIT and would be featured in the "Doll Dressing" section of the exhibit. The exhibit would explore the history of fashion dolls and their influence. If selected this would be showcased with others online from September 16, 2026 through January 3, 2027. So, I definitely wanted to be sure I added one of mine! The campaign page was here and I saw the call on Instagram first back in April!

Precursor, believe it or not, when I was a Senior in high school, one of my many dreams was to become a "Fashion Designer"! I was wanting to do this so badly that I drew for one of the ads in a Seventeen magazine that was for The Art Institute College, back in 1989. I got a letter and then a call from the New York Campus! They told me I could go to their San Francisco campus if I couldn't get to New York. I was so very excited that it might be possible to attend... Sadly, we just couldn't afford for me to fly to California let alone pay for dormitory and tuition to attend. Back then, I didn't realize that FAFSA or Pellgrants were a thing. Ugh! So my dreams were dashed... But instead I did attend other Universities and had other experiences, that made me who I am today! Though I may not be a Fashion Designer, I still love fashion and what I do and who I've become.

Handmade Journal Fun!!

 I recently became smitten by journals or scrapbooks handmade in Japan filled with vintage and modern ephemera items. So I decided to make a Rushton journal version!! Below is exactly what I made! I've been taking some time to create and fill the scrapbook journal along the way. Now, I felt it was decent enough to share!

 First, I started off with some fabric I already owned with lovely vintage Rushton plushies! I had some left from other projects I had been working on. Than, I added some pom pom trim and satin ribbon. I was able to also utilize a pink fabric that I had with the baby duck and added some polka dot ruffle trim as well. It was truly fun trying to create the journal using a clear file journal I found at my local Goody/Daiso. I had hand sewn the fabric and trim. Inside also has a pink floral fabric I got from the Goody store ages ago.  

I decided to put this lovely Mary Rushton ornament my dear friend Heather made for me on the inside of the front cover. I found some dividers and journal paper along with files that have pockets to fill my journal with and hold many of the ephemera I already had in my collection. I put this lovely vintage Santa wrapping paper as a start. The wrapping paper reminds me of the Rushton Santa and the same or similar style of that period 1950s.

Inside, I added some baggies with stickers of some adorable Rushton plushies, cards from other sellers who have gifted a card or photo of their collection. Even Valentine's stickers I got from another collector friend Alam in Mexico!

I also found a journal page that can hold my Fuji Instax polaroid photos!! These were photos I took some years back of my collection! I love that I can always have these memories of them! I even had a photo of a doll I no longer have! Haha!

This page, I put a vintage music note card of the song, "Man on the Moon" that was gifted to me from a seller! Seeing this card always made me think of Rushtons and just that dream time from long ago!

I also printed out some items to include, like Melanie's with her Rushton friends. My vintage Santa ad card that you can find very easily these days. Even some stickers and business cards by other collectors!

Last, a page I included with some cute animal stickers, my key charm necklace and caramel candy dice box. It's still a work in progress and I hope to add more as time goes on. One of the things I love about scrapbooks and journals, you can add to them!

I am truly happy with the way it turned out and all the adorable pieces I've kept over the years. Definitely one way for me to keep a memory of that time frame of my collection.

Blue Rushton Bear Part Deux!

 Part One here...

Did I make him a new body? Nope! I decided not too after seeing him all cleaned up. I just couldn't bear to let go of his old fur. So below is how he turned out and even his mechanical arm works too!!

I stuffed him with his original stuffing, than, repainted his face and added a satin bow. His hanky cleaned up nicely still shredded but recognizable and his tag as well. I simply love him and his worn missing fur still gives him character and showcases the love he had from his previous owner.

Bloop: Mission Accomplished

    Back in 2022, I was commissioned to create a character from the television show, "Lost in Space". The last update here.  Well, fast forward to this past April. Fellow collector Robert, shared with me that he went to an event and brought his "Bloop" to meet Marta Kristen. Marta is the actress that played the Judy Robinson from the TV show! OMG!!

    He wrote, "Just wanted to let you know mission accomplished! I got to meet Lost in Space cast member Marta Kristen. I brought along your Debbie the Bloop to also say, 'Hello'. Upon seeing this great prop, Marta stood up and ran from behind her autograph table yelling, "My Bloop! My Bloop!" She just loved it and hugged her in her arms like a child. Then she posed for quite a few pictures. Other fans who came by also asked if they could use Bloop for photo ops. She was a hit ! I made my goal of having me and that awesome figure you made, being photographed with a cast member from the show. Thanks again for such an outstanding job on her worthy of making such an impression! - your space friend Robert"  

I was very humbled by his message, to hear how happy Marta was and how she was touched that he brought his 'Bloop' to see her. Then, knowing that his mission was accomplished, definitely was a feeling of 'Joy and Love' honestly. That something I helped create, had made a difference in someone else's life. This all brings positivity into the world, and a world that needs it too! Thank you again Robert for sharing this great news with me!!

Be the solution in helping others be happy. There is a satisfaction in knowing that you were a part of something that is positive...

"The Unexamined Life..."

 February is on its way out! Here are my recent vintage finds, etc. for the past few weeks...

Below, I found this adorable vintage music box tower with ballerina. It was up for auction via Yahoo Japan with no takers. My guess is because of the lime green lid. Definitely not desirable. So I bidded on it and won it for a good price. As soon as I got it, I knew exactly what I wanted to do to upcycle it and get it more desirable as a collectible!

So, I took the lid off and spray painted it in pink! After a day of drying, I decided to find my miniature vines from my dollhouse supplies and added that to one side. I then, decided to add some pink satin bows and sure enough, I fell in love with this adorable and unique music box tower.

The wind up key is underneath still in lime green and it also serves as a turn table, so that when the music plays the tower turns. While inside the lovely ballerina turns and dancing in a circle inside the tower. The top is lined with red velvet and is where you would put your rings and other simple jewelry. I love how the additions turned out.

It definitely gave a more sweet and pink coquettish vibe to the music box. I will keep it for now. Onto other upcycled finds... Haha! Below, I took this adorable Swimmer white magnet board and instead made it into a Brooch or Pin board. I love the blue rosette ribbon I found at Michaels last summer and used it and then felt patches along with my Junichi Pin collection to decorate it with. Definitely turned out what I had hoped for and a lovely way to display brooches too!

These sweet vintage Japan dolly lot of 2, I got from Japan. They were each wearing Scarlet and Tammy doll clothing that was way to big for them. So, I changed it out to some vintage dolly fashions I had on hand. These fashions fit them just perfectly. So I listed them in my shop. I love there faces!!

Next, the lot of doll fashions that was worn by the little dollies above. They are selling in a lot in my Etsy shop. The fashions fit Tammy, Scarlet and Sindy dolls. Below, I got this lot of sweet Sylvanian Family kitty babies and they are also listed in my shop! Just look at there sweet furry faces!!

The adorable vintage teddy plush below is almost minty, with tag by Trudy Toys! A lovely beige and off white coloring. This cute vintage bear is also in my shop and available!

I brought my vintage ceramic Anart tall deer fawns here to the Village house. Lovely and they make me smile. I decided to let go of the blue fawn and the recasted pink fawn. I will keep just one, my tall pink one. I think it was time for me to let them go. The blue fawn was adopted right away to a lady in California. I also am sharing a lot of Kabaya Jewel box jewelry toys. So many cute pieces I kept and a few to add to a new listing in my shop selling blind box gatchas. If you check my shop I have a lot that will give you five different blind box gatcha toys with extras at a decent price too!!

Above, I got this adorable Takara Mascot box of an I love you doll for a fellow collector, but he didn't buy it, so instead it sold fast to someone else. Oh well. I'm just glad there are always other people that may be interested should some of my customers change there mind on a purchase. No harm, no foul! LMAO!

Last November I decided to preorder the adorable Sleepy Biscuit Baby plush and they arrived to me in early February. Too cute. I love the Chocolate Chip men most! Baby Biscuit is definitely cute and in her pajama garb she is just too cute. I am finding myself not bond with her as much so I may list her in my shop. But she is quite unique for sure!

These adorable glass gatcha miniature trinket dishes in rainbow coloring are so cute! I got the lot and kept a few and added a few to my shop. So far, one sold! They are great to hold your wedding ring or your favorite rings. Quite unique too! I found a Fairytown Ribo collab Easter Boy bunny in box and he is also added to my shop! Still so sweet and adorable. I believe he is missing a candle! Still sweet!

Last but not least some items for my sweet small puppy cotton candy baby. I bought 2 sets of eyes to change out the original ones he had. Made by the lovely Roseden on X. These eyes are so cute!! And they change the look on him dramatically too!! I also bought some tiny fashions for him by Meisen Shop! I love the cute knitted fashions she sells just for these cuties!!

Life in vintage thrifting often changes with the times. Though I've been mostly busy babysitting these days. I still do try to make it a point to find some things when I can.
